You should factor in:

- The cycling discipline - road and MTB rear wheels offer distinct and different features and benefits.
- Wheels with wider rims support larger tyres.
- The rear wheel size - larger wheels roll over obstacles more easily, whilst smaller are more manoeuvrable.
- Weight - carbon is light and stiff but typically costs more and is more vulnerable over rough terrain. Aluminium is robust, affordable, but heavier.
- Spoke count - a higher number indicates a heavier weight but more strength and durability.
- Braking system - is the rear wheel compatible with disc or traditional braking systems?
