What is a cycling skinsuit?
The name gives it away. Designed to be a second skin, this form-hugging kit reduces air resistance, enabling the rider to better ‘slice’ through the air
Typically worn as a track or road cycling skinsuit, this item of clothing is perfect for speed-based events such as time trials or triathlons. Whilst a short sleeve cycling skinsuit is the more common design, you can select different sleeve lengths, as evidenced by our range.
Look for technically advanced fabric that is lightweight, breathable and frictionless, all of which you’ll find from Santini.
How tight should a cycling skinsuit be?
Again, the answer is in the name. You want this to be a very close-fitting piece of kit. Any looseness creates opportunities for air to enter the kit and slow you down. That said, you don’t want it so tight it feels like it’s constricting your blood circulation or cutting into parts of your body.
You want to feel like the kit is hugging every part of your body, not throttling it!
Oh, and if you’re wondering what to wear under a cycling skinsuit, the answer is very little! You would typically wear a sports bra with a women’s cycling skinsuit. However, bottom-half underwear is not required for women’s or men’s kit. Again, adding unnecessary layers just compromises everything this kit stands for.
