BBB Cycling Hawk Helmet Review

BBB Hawk review

Dutch cycling parts and accessories brand BBB have only recently started distributing helmets in Australia. We take a look at the new Hawk model, designed specifically for the needs of Australia’s recreational riders.

There are a number of helmets targeted at recreational riders in the sub-$100AUD price range, but none have the combination of low weight, style and price that the Hawk offers. The key to the Hawk’s merit lies in its construction – it has an internal safety cage as opposed to the hard shell of many urban or skate helmets. This means that the Hawk requires less foam to construct than other helmets in the same price bracket, allowing for reduced weight and more efficient ventilation. A medium sized Hawk weighs just 275 grams and retails for $69.99 AUD, while most rivals around the same price point – such as the Lazer Cyclone or Giro Foray – are either heavier, more expensive, or both.

We found the dial retention system featured in the Hawk to be very comfortable, and again surprising high quality for this price point. All models feature a 3M reflective panel at the rear of the helmet for safety – a feature that we very much appreciate.

The Hawk is available in two sizes (54-58cm and 58-62cm) and four colourways – black, red, blue, and white. We’re fans of the blue colourway in particular – it’s a really bright royal blue that looks great up close, but will also stand out from a distance.
